How to Become a Successful Person

I often ask people who try to become successful about what factors contribute to that path. Sometimes this is a topic of discussion and other times it’s something I simply see daily.

The ones who believe they can “change the world” because they’re able to make something work in their fields will always have a few questions, things they believe would make them successful. Here are a few of the most common:

The phrase that it’s “always three strikes and you’re out”

The original story I was told that explained this was actually made up for this very reason. No career is one size fits all, but saying someone needs to strike three times before they can succeed completely smacks of some sort of patriarchal mentality.

No matter what the job is, there are myriad areas that can lead to a surefire path to success. A lot of these tips can be seen on your resume page, but knowing this knowledge from knowing it won’t help you deal with the situation you find yourself in.

The Energy of Job

A lot of people try to align their daily energy with this dream of being a professional all-powerful energy, or something similar. They don’t necessarily understand how some situations work (it’s human nature to develop amazing snap judgments), and become frustrated and disappointed when they’re not always successful at a certain task (which only exacerbates any problems).

The “all power to me” mentality is called for, but it’s difficult to execute it when your perspective is fundamentally founded on the false notion that you and your family could and should accomplish what others have been able to. Worrying that you’re letting them down isn’t an excuse, but it’s not a sustainable mindset.

It doesn’t have to be that way, and it’s not. Focus on what you’re great at and remember how awesome you are (no matter what someone else says). Life isn’t only about how many wins you racked up, but also how many wins are possible.
